Hi Shari. I am also from the Philadelphia area. My son Michael, age 9, has Moyamoya. Our neurologist at CHOP in Philadelphia recommended a neurosurgeon from CHOP to do the operation. We spoke with the CHOP neurosurgeon but still decided to go to Boston to let Dr. Scott do the operation. Michael's operation was Oct 13 and he seems to be doing just fine.
While this note has nothing to do with insurance because my insurance paid for Dr Scott, I just want you to know that even the doctor at CHOP didn't have much Moyamoya experience. He said he performed about 12 of the operations but I'm not so sure that he was telling the truth. In any event, I strongly recommend Dr. Scott.
