First, this site is a tremendous help and service to those looking for information on MM. My father’s case is quite unique (so we think) and may offer hope for those recently diagnosed. My father had a stroke at 25 (in 1963). He lost roughly 25% use of his left hand, but you would never notice it. He has been symptom free until 1999. He had a sense of weakness on his left side in 1999. He was diagnosed with MM and put on blood thinners. Two weeks ago he had severe headaches and additional weakness. He had a hemorrhage of a MM vessel. In the past four days he has had 3 TIA episodes (none before this week). The doctors are suggesting surgery, EMS not STA-MCA. He is at the Methodist hospital in Houston, which has a recognized stroke unit. How should we go about getting a second surgical opinion? I am posting this for others because my father is 65 years old and had a massive stroke at 25. If you have any advice on getting an additional opinion on surgeons and surgical procedure, please reply.
Best of luck to all –
John
