My mother just called me to tell me that my father went unresponsive overnight and they have not been able to solicit any sort of response as of yet.  They are running more tests.  He was supposed to have the STA-MCA surgery last Tuesday when they discovered the right side of his brain was 100% blocked.  The doctors put it off to wednesday then thursday then to this coming monday and again to this tuesday for who knows what reason (none of their reasons have had anything to do with my father's condition, just their schedules changing)...now in all their delay and our frustration my dad is out cold.  I am so scared, what does this mean?  Have the doctors been negligent (obviously they have been uncooperative) in putting the surgery off?  Has anyone else had experiences with a patient going unconscious?

          My daughter was unconsious for a week after her 4th stroke then she all the sudden started to move one toe then crack her eyes open then open them for longer periods of times as days went by. She says to this day she heard every word we said while unconsious and knew when we were in the room so keep on talking to him and encouraging him to keep fighting.  When she came around it was before her surgery, that wasn't for a month later (the surgery). Good Luck I hope it helped don't give up.

As far as transferring or getting a new doctor it just isn't so easy.  Given his current condition I don't know if he even can be transferred and untill this last development we were frustrated that the surgery kept being postpoed but this doctor had it scheduled and had good experience with the surgery so we were going to continue with this doctor till after the surgery and then look into options with other doctors for follow-up. 
Since this doctor won't do anything till my father is conscious and stable I have been contacting other doctors, so far Dr. Connelly in NYC and Dr. Steinberg.  As far as Dr. Liebeskind at U Penn who was recommended by someone on this site, I couldn't find any contact info for him and he wasn't listed on the U Penn website.  Does anyone know who else might be useful at U Penn?

Debbie---like I said on your other post-----even if you can't come here for the surgery.......your Mom and family members who are local are welcome to stay with me for as long as need be.  If you need private ambulance, it can be arranged....since your Dad is unconscious. he won't be aware of the travel....my right side was 100% occluded also.......let me know just how I can help...glad to hear you contacted Dr. Connolly.....his Nurse Practitioner, Kim, was out today, so he and his secretary, Pat, were a bit crazed.....he usually does surgeries on Tuedays and Fridays and he is "on call" 24/7...........I am here for you and your family....the whole MM family is here for you and your family.  My home telephone # is 201-930-1163; work # is 201-996-1555----just leave a message with receptionist or voice mail and I will get back to you asap.......prayers are with you and your family.....Good night and God Bless.  PatM
