I was just diagnosed friday with Moya Moya after a cerebral angiogram. Any advice? Anyone know surgeons in the Seattle area for adults?

Hi there .  I had my first 2 surgeries at Harborview  Medical Center in 2006 then i had my next 2 surgeries 9 months ago .

My Neurosurgeon saved my life and I would recommend him to anyone .  His name is Dr Sekhar .  if you need more information please PM me   .  he is a wonderful DR.

I will keep you in my prayers as you go though this journey .       Tammy :)

Thanks Tammy, I live in Spokane but, my neurologist wants me to go to Seattle for the surgery at Swedish Hospital. I will know more tomorrow. Thanks for the prayers, they definitely help. This disease scares me.

Hi Krose, [smiley=wave.gif] welcome to our MM family!

My advice to you is to do a lot of research and learn all you can about MMD. The more you learn about MM the less scary it is. You’ll find that this is a successfully treatable disease IF you go in the proper direction. No two cases are alike, so experience and knowledge about MM is vital. I’m sure you’ve discovered by now, that this is still considered a rare disease and because of that, unfortunately there is still a lack of real MM experience out there in the medical community, so to make sure you go in the best direction for your particular case, it’s so important that your neurosurgeon have MM experience. I can’t emphasize that enough.

We’ve had several members mention that Dr. Newel at Swedish may have experience in treating MMD. But keep in mind; a second opinion with a MM specialist is always very wise. A MM specialist, who deals with MM on a daily basis, can review your films and make sure you’re on the best path for your case.

There is a wealth of information here. Good luck and keep us posted.

Mar

Saw the neurologist today, he is sending me to Seattle to see Dr. Newel at Swedish in the next week  or two. Angiogram showed complete closure on the right and left but, sufficient backup blood flow for now?(I hope)
