My son (Tyler) is 11 and had his surgeries in CA on June 18 and 25. He was very nervous and we discussed it throughly. I know a teenager is difficult to talk to at times, just be there for him. Let him know that even the adults are nervous about this type of surgery, you'd have to be crazy not to be, but it is a very quick recovery and it helps so much. Tyler was swimming 2 weeks after his last surgery, he was afraid of water after his stroke in Nov. but he could tell he was doing better and has regained alot of confidance. His stroke had taken complete use of his left arm from him, he is still working on regaining it completely, but now he doesn't have the threat of another stroke hanging over his head. Just let your son know that fear and nervousness are normal, but that he can overcome it and get back to his "normal" life. I hope some of my rambling has helped. Your son and your family are in my prayers, sometimes the waiting for surgery is the worse part.
