My daughter Mandy was in rehab for about 13 weeks the first week she was unconsious and 2 weeks after was staying awake for longer periods of time and trying to get strong enough to get to rehab. This all happened 4 months ago. She has gone from not being able to even sit up without someone struggling to hold her up to needing to be in a tilt wheel chair to lean back because of weakness to being in a regular wheel chair. Her left side was totally numb, she now also has her left hand in a fist all the time. A week and a half or so ago she slowly opened her hand on her own twice and hasn't done it since, it will still be a while before its totally back . She lifts her left arm about a foot or so and is gaining more and more movement. She wears a splint on her left hand at night which has been a big key to her left hand getting better. Her left leg was not doing well for a while they had her using different walkers to see what would work the best. She finally got to the point were they were walking her with a hemi walker bracing her left leg from top to bottom and pulling it along to move it. Now about 2 1/2 weeks ago she started to take steps on her own with her left leg out of no where I was floored. You still have to help it along every 5th or so steps and she still uses the walker and has to be supported under her left arm while walking she cannot be left go for more than a minute if that, you have to lock her left knee back before she can take a step. Shes getting better and better everyday and will make a full recovery it will still take a long time. If you have anymore questions I will be glad to answer them. Good luck with Kathleen!!!!
